The goal of life is to attain happiness, to attain eternal bliss. And this is what mankind is here for. The rest is just secondary. But nowadays, people have placed God in the second, even third position, while other [worldly] expectations are shining beautifully – as number one! Misery dresses itself so beautifully that it can make you get trapped in it. And the moment you get trapped in it, She is happy. Maya Devi is very powerful, because She traps everything, everybody gets trapped in it.

The imaginations of the mind are just as innumerable as the innumerable waves of an ocean. If somehow this mind can become quiet by itself, attainment of true knowledge — like diamond will become easily possible (everyone in this world is sad and restless because of lack of true knowledge. This true knowledge can be attained only when the mind becomes quiet).

It is a bliss remembering God even for a moment. But only those, who practice it, know it.

The idea of being on a path is useful, until we wake up to the realization that God is not in some other place, separate from where we are at this moment.

As Christ resurrected his consciousness from the sepulcher of mortal limitations, so must you learn to resurrect your mind by meditation from the tomb of material desires and body-confinement to the consciousness of omnipresence.

Resurrect your calmness from beneath the soil of restlessness; resurrect your wisdom from the enshrouding earthliness of ignorance; resurrect your love from beneath the sod of mundane human attachment − with its limited love for family, society, and country − to divine love for all.

As Jesus withdrew his mind from the body by ecstasy and united it with all-pervading Spirit, so through the consciousness of Christ developed within yourself by constant meditation unite your soul with omniscient Spirit, your life with Eternal Life.

Questioner: What is the easiest way to God?

Sri Anandamayi Ma: Profuse tears.

Questioner: And if tears do not come…

Sri Anandamayi Ma: Then you should seek the company of those who shed tears, namely in satsang. This is the easiest way to God, through love and devotion.

— Sri Anandamayi Ma

Do you think God is far away?

When we look at Shiva, He’s in deep mediation. You all have seen a murti of Shiva. What we see is that He’s a great yogi sitting in deep meditation. Yet, we look for liberation. We pray to Him, we are always asking Him, but we don’t take his example. In our Hindu culture we always talk about mukti. We always say that we have incarnated here because of our karma, to liberate our Selves, yet, we forget about it. We know it because the mind always looks for something greater. Even if it’s attached to matter, to things, it still jumps always from one thing to another until it reaches the ultimate.

So when we talk about liberation, the question will arise “How do we attain it?“ How? When you ask this question, automatically you say “Yes, I have to do this or I have to do that,” but liberation doesn’t lie in the process of doing, it lies in the process of undoing. In doing you are always accelerating the mind, whereas in undoing certain things, you are decelerating the processes of the mind. This is where the mind enters a peaceful state, parashanti. Great Peace is revealed to you.

It’s so simple. When you look at Shiva, He’s just sitting, but deep inside He’s centred within Himself. He is sitting inside of Himself. It’s simple. For example, when you play nice music, what happens? You lose yourself in it. You are not aware of who is around you, who is walking and what they are doing. In the same way as when somebody is listening to music and they lose themselves. If they move one step forward and lose themselves in the higher consciousness, they will forget the body and the mind.

So if one is lost in the Supreme Consciousness, then the truth reveals itself. Do you think God is far away? No, He is your Self. It’s just that when illusion is removed, then you start to shine. Then you realise what the Gita said “The one who looks for me or the one who Realises me and the one who is a true Yogi sees me everywhere, in everything.”

Meditate on the Self.
One without two,
Exalted awareness.
Give up the illusion
Of the separate self.
Give up the feeling,
Within or without,
That you are this or that.

My child,
Because you think you are the body,
For a long time you have been bound.
Know you are pure awareness.
With this knowledge as your sword
Cut through your chains.
And be happy!

— Ashtavakra Gita (1:13 & 1:14)

Heaven is neither a place nor a condition. It is merely an awareness of perfect Oneness and the knowledge that there is nothing else; nothing outside this Oneness and nothing else within.
